I do not claim ownership for any of the material presented in this here is the second and final release from art rock band Hugo Largo. It was released by Brian Eno's record label, Opal, on January 1, 1989 and was supported by a European tour following its release. Mettle was produced by then-member and current electronic musician Hahn Rowe. This was Hugo Largo's last album before their initial breakup, although a later 1990-91 lineup wrote and recorded new material for a third, never-released album. Brian Eno's label, Opal, picked up Hugo Largo for their second album, and on one hand the songs are closer to pop or a weird art-school version thereof, yet on the other, the skill and emotional range of the band has broadened considerably. The menace of Hot Day abuts the beauty of Jungle Jim and the playfulness of Turtle Song the one single from the album, bearing bonus tracks that should have been reissued.
