Hugh Marsh born June 5, 1955 is a violinist from Toronto, known for his electric violin sound. Marsh was nominated for a 2007 Juno Award in the best contemporary jazz album category. Marsh was born in Montreal, Quebec and brought up in Ottawa, Ontario, where he learned to play the violin from the age of five but it was when he tried playing the saxophone while at high school that led to him exploring jazz, funk and rhythm and blues. With his father's encouragement, he transferred these improvisation. Album 1983 11 Songs. The Bear Walks. Laura With the Laughing Eyes. The Doctor Is Out. Canadian violinist Marsh has been a regular sideman for musicians such as Bruce Cockburn and Loreena McKennitt. On this, the first of his two 1980s solo albums, he is joined by Cockburn on one song La Carezza, as well as a selection of other fine musicians. An all-instrumental outing, it is a very polished production, and Marsh's playing is exemplary throughout.
