Released three years later, Radio Wars finds the group polishing its mix of country-noir and alternative poprock, a sound that now owes far more to the latter category. If 2006's Howling Bells was the fictional soundtrack to a gloomy art house film, then Radio Wars is its big-budget sequel, a collection of minor-key anthems and Technicolor melodies that are both stylish and cinematic. Radio Wars is the second studio album by London-based Australian indie rock band Howling Bells. Recorded at four different studios, it was produced by Dan Grech-Marguerat except one track by Howling Bells. Songwriting efforts for Radio Wars were provided by all four members of the band. Unfortunately, Radio Wars is the antithesis. Much of the material here is so directionless it's simply bland.
