Info

The World on My Plates was Hermine's EP debut, but this 1982 album arrived after a wayward, often fascinating series of explorations in art and performance, from tightrope walking to performance pieces, as well as a number of singles. A mix of four covers and two original songs from multi-instrumentalist collaborator Ian Kane, the original EP is a skew-whiff piece of arch cabaret - Hermine's speak-singing approach to The Thrill Is Gone seems like it could be a lost Dietrich performance - and moody, minimal post-punk styling. In April 1982 the Belgian record label Crammed Discs released an album containing six songs by Hermine, The World On My Plates, well known for the cover photograph by Richard Rayner-Canham where Hermine loads 7 singles into a dishwasher while wearing a ball gown. She toured in 1982 and 1983. The follow-up album Lonely At The Top was released in July 1984 on her own label Salomé. Swiss session recordings for another album, along with a couple of re-recordings, were eventually released on Who'll Come Walking in 2008. Her two albums were both re-released in digitally remastered CD ed. Listen free to Hermine The World on my Plates Happy Holidays, The Thrill Is Gone and more. 13 tracks 46:20. Now considered something of a New Wave diva, Hermine Demoriane is a singer, writer, actress, comedian and tightrope walker. Her unique brand of singing, which, dare I say, is something of an acquired taste, is best encapsulated on her somewhat lost debut mini-album from 1982, 'The World On My Plates'. A six track collection of intriguing vaudeville torch songs, the LP owes much of it's cult reputation to the fabulous, iconic cover photo, which shows Hermine loading 7" records into a dishwasher, as you do, dolled up in her best polka-dot frock. I am so much in love with this sleeve image that I had it blown up and printed onto canvas, and it now proudly hangs in my kitchen. Comprising of minimalistic versions of 'Blue Angel' (Roy Orbison), 'Too Many Men In My Life' (Ruth Wallis), 'The Thrill Is Gone' (Henderson & Brown) and 'I Won't Make It Without You' (Nick Lowe), together with two originals, 'Happy Holidays' and 'Waiting', the release appeared in April 1982, on Brussels-based independent label, Crammed Discs.
