Info

The Parkerilla is a 1978 live double album by Graham Parker and The Rumour. It was recorded at Winter Gardens, Bournemouth, Manchester Opera House, Apollo Theatre, Oxford and The Palladium, New York City and mixed at Rockfield Studios, Wales. The album was recorded as a contractual obligation album as Parker had already signed with Arista and was preparing Squeezing Out Sparks for that label. The album was longer than a traditional record and Mercury elected to release it as a double album. The Parkerilla - Graham Parker, The Rumour. In many respects, The Parkerilla practically screams Let's get this over with, from the skimpy running time 54 minutes, including a studio re-recording of Hey Lord, Don't Ask Me Questions that filled side four and unimaginative set list, to a slightly dodgy mix that keeps losing track of the horn section, and a sequence that has a hard time keeping. one of the most exciting acts of the day in forward gear. Parker and the Rumour dont take off from their three previous albums, they clone them: the live version of Dont Ask Me Questions offered here misses the original studio take by a mere six seconds. The only vital differences are negative. Parkers last album, Stick to Me, was miserably recorded, virtually snuffing the power of the three blazing, intelligent tunes he then proceeded to rescue on-stage: Stick to Me, Soul on Ice and the magnificent Thunder and Rain. None is included on The Parkerilla - nor is Pouring It All Out, as perfect a rock & roll song as anyone has written in the Seventies, and the essence of Parkers live dose of reality. Graham Parker And The Rumour were a band that made very good records but their real strength was as a live band The only studio album I really got into was Stick to me and I still have the vinyl as well as the C. of that little gem, but Parkerilla is by far the best of their recordings It's sweaty and frantic right from the off and the band perform all of their great numbers without a slip. Graham Parker - The Parkerilla Double Vinyl LP. Initially it only had one of the 2 LP's but Theodore at Moorish went the extra mile and sourced the missed LP. So a real bargain at 7. Released 1978.
