The two concert waltzes were written in 1893-94 and dedicated to Rimsky-Korsakov. Glazunovs waltzes are not the big extravaganzas of Johann Strauss, but have a gentle and delicate air to them. Again, this effect is assisted by very transparent orchestration. They enchant you with their grace and charm rather than sweeping you away with orchestral sumptuousness. Igor Golovschin studied with both Kondrashin and Svetlanov and conducts Glazunov with the commitment he needs.
