While I miss the fat sound some other baritones DeccaLondon might have considered would have brought to the role that quality was not really among Gobbi's or Milnes' specialties, Fischer-Dieskau's is an intelligent and lyrical portrayal, marred only by the occasional overemphases within phrases.
