Info
Free Your Mind. and Your Ass Will Follow is the second studio album by American funk band Funkadelic, released in July 1970 by Westbound Records. The album was recorded at United Sound Studios, Audio Graphic Services, and G-M Recording Studios in Detroit. The inspiration for this album was, according to George Clinton, an attempt to see if we can cut a whole album while we're all tripping on acid. Funkadelic - Fish, Chips And Sweat Single. Funkadelic - Free Your Mind Radio Advert. Funkadelic's music was deeply psychedelic from the outset-the word is portmanteaued in the band's name-but the diffuse, crunchy production and disembodied voices of the title track are the soul equivalent of The Beatles' Revolution 9, and the backward masking on Eulogy and Light is eerie even by P-funk standards. Meanwhile, Funky Dollar Bill is some of Funkadelic's most straight-ahead, rocking R&B, while I Wanna Know If It's Good to You snaps with Tiki Fulwood's devastating breakbeat and Eddie Hazel's bluesy. Geroge Clinton was wondering: could we all do an album if we all are tripping in lsd and result: free your mind and your ass will follow. This album was released by westbound records. Funkadelic was originally the backing band for the doo wop group, Parliament. If it were just a title then there'd be little more to say, but happily, Free Your Mind lives up to it throughout as another example of Funkadelic getting busy and taking everyone with it. The title track itself kicks things off with rumbling industrial noises and space alien sound effects, before a call-and-response chant between deep and chirpy voices brings the concept to full life.
