The first is Sing A Song Of Songmy, a long electronic piece protesting the Vietnam War. This work is just full of sounds, singing, electronics, and tons of textures and parts streched over the album. A truely creepy album long work. An exersize in complete contrast, Ecchos Of Blue starts with a latin number and gets us back on familier ground. The whole record is the sophisicated hard bop that Hubbard was so adept at playing. What the CD reissue liner notes fail to emphasize is that this is really an Ilhan Mimaroglu album. Not to devaluate the first-rate performances by Hubbard & his group, but calling this a Freddie Hubbard album is somewhat misleading. Release group information.
