Info
Welcome to the Pleasuredome is the title track to the 1984 debut album by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The lyrics of the song were inspired by the poem Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In March 1985, the album track was substantially abridged and remixed for release as the group's fourth UK single. While criticized at the time of release and afterward for being a song that glorifies debauchery, the lyrics and video make clear that the point of the song, just as Coleridge's poem, is about the. In truth, the album's more a testament to Trevor Horn's production skills than anything else. To help out, he roped in a slew of Ian Dury's backing musicians to provide the music, along with a guest appearance from his fellow Yes veteran Steve Howe on acoustic guitar that probably had prog rock fanatics collapsing in apoplexy. Review Summary: Frankie Goes to Hollywood was a quirky but lovable 80's band whose controversies and fanaticism reached few people this side of the Atlantic but is quite influential on the artists of today. Pleasuredome was their only album that really mattered. The album was originally a double album. It could have easily been condensed down to a single LP and have been much more fluid and consistent. The First LP is the stronger of the two featuring an eerie introductory section consisting of the first three tracks before transitioning into the fantastic title track which stretches on for twelve minutes. To this day I cannot figure out why I love this song so much. Welcome to the Pleasuredome is the debut studio album by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, first released by ZTT and Island Records on 29 October 1984. Originally issued as a vinyl double album, it was assured of a UK chart entry at number one due to reported advance sales of over one million. The album was also a top ten seller internationally in countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, and New Zealand
