Everything is a Mess. Fist City. Alternative City live up to their name on their third album, Everything Is a Mess - the album title, too. The Canadian quartet rips through the 11 songs and six interludes, most of them like a ragged punch in the face, all of them scrappy and loose with the band holding on for dear life. The guitars are reverb-heavy and distorted, while still being light and stinging. The rhythm section bobs and weaves like a welterweight fighter, never settling into. Fist City are going to try and pass Everything Is A Mess off as a delinquent laugh into nightclub corners, but were not going to let them. We know its far more than that than a scrappy nod at nostalgia or a decent stab at post-punk. This album is too distinct, with too much perspective to call anything other than revelationary. You could hear this a hundred times and be no closer to figuring the band out, and I just find that mind blowing. This is such an endearing band I dont want to understand them quite yet, rather be wooed by what they have to say right now and figure it all out in a f. Fist City is the twelfth solo studio album by American country music singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn. It was released on April 15, 1968, by Decca Records. In the issue dated May 4, 1968, Billboard magazine published a review of the album, saying, Loretta Lynn couples potent lyrics with intense emotion on this LP. Call it county soul.
