Left Hand Path is the debut studio album by Swedish death metal band Entombed, released on 4 June 1990 by Earache Records. The title of the album refers to the Left-Hand Path belief system. Guitarist Alex Hellid found the term in Anton LaVey's book The Satanic Bible. The title track contains an interpolation of the theme from the 1979 horror film Phantasm at 3:54. With this album, Entombed created a whole new subgenre of death metal and inspired hundreds upon hundreds of bands in and outside of metal to add a little spice to their art using the buzzsaw guitar effect. They introduced the world to a new kind of heavy, and the sound lives on even now, almost 30 years later, and will rip you in half still the same. Left Hand Path is the debut album from Entombed from 1990 that is known for defining the style of Swedish death metal by being the first recording to use the Tomas SkogsbergSunlight Studios buzzsaw guitar tone. The tone was created by heavily detuned electric guitars used with a maxed out Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal Pedal and a Boss DS-1 Distortion on a Peavey 40 watt Bandit amp. The originator of this guitar tone was Nihilist guitarist Leffe Cuzner.
