Elvis: A Legendary Performer Volume 2 is a compilation album featuring recordings by American singer and musician Elvis Presley. As with the first volume of the series, issued in 1974, the collection was a mixture of previously released and never-before-released recordings. The album was certified Gold on October 25, 1977 and Platinum and 2 Platinum on July 15, 1999 by the RIAA. Elvis A Legendary Performer Vol. Released:Jan. This was the second deluxe Legendary Performer package compiled by Joan Deary in a format that gave Elvis present no chance against his past. Once again a combination of well-known and well-loved masters, some rarities, and a collectable souvenir book was enhanced by a newly discovered Sun recording of Harbor Lights, very likely the very first song put on tape at Elvis first recording session in 1954. Initial sales of 600,000 copies put this compilation in rarefied commercial territory and with no artists royalties due. The second volume in RCA's Legendary Performer series on Elvis Presley followed the pattern of the first one, mixing well-known songs about half and half with previously unreleased songs or alternate takes. Volume 1 had boasted an alternate of the Sun Records track I Love You Because Volume 2 trumped that by digging up a previously unreleased Sun song, Harbor Lights. That was the one gem here, though.
