Info
Victim of Love, released in 1979, is the thirteenth studio album release for Elton John. It is a disco album, released shortly after the peak of disco's popularity. It was not critically or commercially well-received, and is Elton John's third lowest charting album to date in the US, after 1986's Leather Jackets and 1985's Ice on Fire. The title track of the album, however, was moderately successful as a single. It reached No. 31 on the US Billboard Hot 100, No. 38 in Australia and No. 46 in Canada. Текст песни: You said youd never fake it You swore wed always make it last And it sounded so real And I fell into your love trap. 1979's 'Victim of Love' isn't horrible because it's Elton John going disco, but because it's a terrible collection of forgettable songs. For fans used to Johns usual long-players, full of tuneful pop and careful arrangements, dropping the needle on Victim of Love must have been a shock to the system. Soulless disco No songs by John and Bernie Taupin I wanted to make a record that people could dance to without taking the needle off, John told journalist Tom Doyle for his book Captain Fantastic: Elton John's Stellar Trip Through the '70s. I can understand why it wasnt successful. I enjoyed it, it was self-indulgent. Im not ashamed of it. The artist was not fully satisfied with the initial results of the three-song Mama Can't Buy You Love EP, which became as much a product of Philly soul maverick Thom Bell as it did John. When Bellotte approached John to record a full-length disco album, he took him up on the offer. This was providing that John's contributions would be limited to providing vocals only. The results can be heard on Victim of Love 1979, a dismissible platter of Teutonic 44 rhythms and extended mostly instrumental indulgence. Elton John - Victim Of Love 1979. Soulless disco No songs by John and Bernie Taupin. For my money, yes, certainly. Elton had nearly no involvement with the recording of the album and wrote no material for it and wanting to release a disco LP after the genre was already on life support wasjust a really bad idea. EJ and BT both think that The Big Picture is their worst LP. Bernie I won't argue with as he had nothing to do with Victim of Love
