Édith Piaf UK: ˈpiːæf, US: piːˈɑːf French: listen born Édith Giovanna Gassion, French: 19 December 1915 10 October 1963 was a French singer-songwriter, cabaret performer and film actress noted as France's national chanteuse and one of the country's most widely known international stars. Piaf's music was often autobiographical and she specialized in chanson and torch ballads about love, loss and sorrow. Her most widely known songs include La Vie en rose. Édith Piaf. Released 1955. He changed her stage name to Édith Piaf, barred undesirable acquaintances from seeing her, and commissioned Monnot to write songs that reflected or alluded to Piaf's previous life on the streets. In 1940, Édith co-starred in Jean Cocteau's successful one-act play Le Bel Indifférent. She began forming friendships with prominent people, including Chevalier and poet Jacques Borgeat. Piaf is the title of an album released by Elaine Paige in 1994. It consists of a number of covers of songs originally recorded by Édith Piaf and was released to coincide with Paige's appearance in Pam Gems' biographical play Piaf in London. The album was recorded at Master Rock, Olympic, Maison Rouge, Imagination and Lansdowne Studios. It was mixed at Master Rock. It was released by Warner Music UK on the WEA label.
