New Directions in Music - The Sauter-Finegan Orchestra. Directions in Music: Live at Massey Hall is a live recording by Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove and Michael Brecker. It was recorded on October 25, 2001 in Toronto, and was subtitled, Celebrating Miles Davis & John Coltrane. It was Hancock's forty-fourth album. It won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group in 2003. The track My Ship won the Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo that same year. It is a landmark album that represents Bundy K. Brown's commitment to innovation in his post-Tortoise days. For this session, he brings together fellow underground proponents James Warden and Doug Scharin, of Rex, HiM and June of 44 fame. The result is an eight-song work of intriguingly radical texture. Taking a standard guitar, bass and drums format and overdubbing, splicing, mixing and adding various noises, the three create an auditory masterpiece. Both catchy and complex at the same time,. Directions in Music is a Canadian music television miniseries which aired on CBC Television in 1961. This Vancouver production featured five episodes of various musical forms. This half-hour series was broadcast Sundays at 4:30 p. Eastern from 23 April to 21 May 1961.
