Info

In a Bar, Under the Sea is the second studio album by Belgian rock band Deus. The cover art was designed by guitarist Rudy Trouvé. The original Belgian release was by Bang, with the only difference that track 14 is simply named Roses, like the single. The album was produced by Eric Drew Feldman who was keyboard and bass player for Captain Beefheart in the late seventies and early eighties and welcomes guests such as Scott McCloud from Girls Against Boys on Fell Off the Floor, Man, Dana Colley. DEUS - Roses 1996 This video is taken from the 2001 dEUS 'No More Video' DVD. For the Roses' is available on the 1996 dEUS album 'In A Bar, Under , one can imagine In a Bar, Under the Sea as the appropriate portrait of the lives of these everyday comfortable guys- lives full of adventures, drugs, affairs, desires and traces of wisdom veiled with the fog of urban folklore. Such portrayals never scream for authenticity, but at least, In a Bar, Under the Sea masterfully creates that illusion for the faces of its creators. It's an album that vents easiness and joy, a work that hardly displays feelings of vanity or disapproval. The overall euphoria is omnipresent here, but at times hidden or camouflaged, struggling to find some way o. In a way you can compare them to IndieAlternative artists like Beck, PJ Harvey and Pavement and some of their influences are Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa and Tom Waits. In a Bar, Under the Sea from 1996 is dEUS second full-album and the best IMO. The album opens with a 45 seconds short introduction, that sounds like an ancient blues song. The first real song is the Beefheart-esque Fell off the Floor Man

A somewhat subdued pressing, lacking the vibrance of the original. Nothing to do with the original being hot, it's just this seems a litle muted and low end heavy. I rarely have to mess with my levels but had to with this one. Also there's a hell of a lot of surface noise. played the original straght after it, there's absolutely no comparison. These reissues on Musicmania have not floored me yet. I liked the look WCS, but all I could say for certain is that it was better than the bootleg. Given the choice of these reissues or the CD because the original vinyl is so expensive, I'd get the CD versions in a heartbeat..

Totally right! I was about to review this one too, and I checked your comment. I just got my copy (listed as the new Musicmania release, due to seller's mistake -never had the proper one-). Lots of surface noise, and a weird feedback when a certain volume level exceeded. Although, I used a pro-mixer to clear this out, but static noise is always there when the bass kicks in...
