Number of Discs: 1. I mention the sound first because Paray's CD of Debussy and Ravel, featuring La Mer, Iberia, Afternooon of a Fuan, and the Mother Goose Suite, is captured in excellent 1955 sonics that have held up beautifully. In other respects the performances aren't up to the finest. The Detroit Symphony is a very good ensemble but no match for Munch's Boston Sym. at the time. Paray himself is certainly stylishly French, but his readings here are fairly straightforward, even a bit routine and, in La Mer especially, rhythmically slack.
