At first glance, this looks to be a fairly typical early 80s New Age release, leading off with the soon-to-be-clichéd trick of taking a well-known short piece of classical music, mellowing it down, and stretching it out over an entire side. An 18½-minute version of "Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring" is either a delight or torture depending on your preferences, but there's no doubting it's what encouraged a lot of people to pick up this album. However, the real treasures are the two tracks on the second side: "Blue Spirals" consists of musical phrases played on violin over a sustained string section chord, while "Path Of Joy" is built on a gentle electric piano progression with flute as counterpart, over which Kobialka superbly adds his distinct violin performance. Both are pure calming bliss, superbly well-done, and each is reason enough to own this recording.

In terms of production, there's very little electronics here, aside from some quiet synth chime loops on the second side, and the heavy use of digital reverb. As a result, the album is free of the type of instantly-dated MIDI sounds which would later dominate so many recordings in the genre as the decade progressed. As with most 80s New Age, the lion's share of copies would've been on cassette, but it's also worth pointing out that the pressing quality of the LP is top-notch.
