The debut album by the Berlin electronica artist Marit Posch, performing as Damero, marries her wispy vocal melodies and driving sequencer rhythms with vintage synthesizer gurgles and chiming keyboard samples. Damero's debut, HAPPY IN GREY, has the feeling of a Morr Music release: the merging of pop sensibilities with an electronic one. With female vocals, to boot! The light, emotive touch of "Mope" or the guitar build of "Passage To Silence" (written in conjunction with Apparat) or the quiet glitchiness of "1-1+1-1+1-...=1/2" (with AGF) wouldn't be out of place with Morr Music's A&R. But, as the album appears on BPitch Control, it occasionally goes the club route with some 4/4 beats, like on "Right_Wrong," or in a more mellow way on "Gestern_Morgen." But it's the careful balance of instrumentation and texture that stands out the most: the guitar thrum of "Okay_Okay," for instance, contrasts with the haunting theremin in the background, while "Capricorn Saltlick" and "Creeping Thunderheads" have a creeping paranoia to them. "Things_Gone" goes back towards the beats, though with a more abstract vibe. And "I Made a Home" ends the album on a quiet, almost romantic note. You should be happy in grey also.
