III stylized as III is the third studio album by Canadian electronic music duo Crystal Castles, released on November 7, 2012 by Fiction Records and Polydor Records. Production was handled by Ethan Kath, with additional production by Jacknife Lee. Produced entirely by Ethan Kath, III was recorded in Berlin and Warsaw, and mixed in London. Crystal Castles songs could once be split into two camps, the pretty ones and the aggressive ones. Crystal Castles seem to operate in a perpetual state of confrontation, conflict, and stress. The third Crystal Castles album, which features a photo of a Yemeni child being cradled by his mother after a tear-gas attack, was recorded in Warsaw and Berlin, and deals with themes such as oppression, corruption and Castles roots lie in bleepy goth-dance, and the lo-fi, video-game style of their early songs sounded very much of the bedroom in which they were recorded. Itd be wrong to say that the Canadian duo have completely left those origins behind with this, their third self-titled album in fact, theres much continuity across Crystal Castles output. But rather than peddle the same trick, they display steady progression. This dichotomy at the very heart of Crystal Castles is becoming more compelling by the album.
