Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen might seem to be a bit of a stretch for Exposé, but considering in the early 70s there was a considerable amount of experimentation with different genres as the psychedelic scene was fading and the Grateful Dead and spin-offs were on the rise, you can make the argument that Commander Cody is tangentially relevant. So naturally I also checked out this new band Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen and their debut Lost in the Ozone, an interesting mix of C&W, swing, and rock, but an album Ive not listened to for decades. The group released their first album in late 1971, Lost in the Ozone, which yielded its best-known hit, a cover version of the 1955 song Hot Rod Lincoln, which reached the top ten on the Billboard singles chart in early 1972. This Lowell George tune is a standard, and when the Airmen did it their way they gave a whole new meaning to the song. One more time, this band holds all the aces and plays every hand with a poker face that just won't quit. Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen knew exactly what they were doing
