One man was quite literally the originator of saxophone in jazz. That same man's creative life spanned the vast distance from Fletcher Henderson's 1920s orchestra to the modern-jazz world of such younger tenor sax giants as Coltrane and Rollins. Coieman Hawkins was at all times a master of both lush ballads and swinging jazz - as amply demonstrated in these selections from a late (but still wonderfully talentloaded) period in his nearly half-century-long career.
