Charles Rouse. Two Is One is an album by American saxophonist Charles Rouse recorded in 1974 and released on the Strata-East label. Bitchin' George Davis - 7:19. Hopscotch Joe Chambers - 7:18. The tune Hopscotch, in particular, begins with one of the most sample-ready intros ever committed to disc. Also, and in seemingly direct contrast, if features a busy, complex head, making it sound more like a George Russell piece than one fit for a Strata East record. Otherwise, the album's opener, Bitchin', as well as In a Funky Way, are both expectedly rocking given the titles and all, with the latter being especially reminiscent of the Meters. But Charles Rouse does never copy anything Miles Davis had brought to fame, he rather develops his own way of getting jazz music onto a new level. The opening tune Bitchin might remind you of Miles Davis just due tot he similarity of the title to Miles Bitches brew album from 1970.
