Info
Two for the Road is a 1980 album by the jazz singer Carmen McRae and the jazz pianist George Shearing. I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance with You Bing Crosby, Ned Washington, Victor Young 3:41. You're All I Need Walter Jurmann, Gus Kahn, Bronislaw Kaper 3:15. Gentleman Friend Arnold B. Horwitt, Richard Lewine 4:11. More Than You Know Edward Eliscu, Billy Rose, Vincent Youmans 4:33. Cloudy Morning Marvin Fisher, Joseph McCarthy 2:55. Shearing recorded solo piano sessions a number of times during his long career, though he rarely played unaccompanied for a vocalist, with the exception of his meetings with Mel Tormé. McRae also had a prolific career and is still in great voice interpreting this standard-heavy collection. Shearing's inventive chord substitutions in Too Late Now are a treat, with the singer making a delayed entrance. Album 1980 10 Songs. George Shearing & Carmen McRae. Jazz 1980. The only recorded meeting between George Shearing and Carmen McRae took place in 1980 for Concord, and it's a shame there wasn't a follow-up date. Although the pianist's backing of singers on recordings is relatively infrequent, he always provides them with richly textured and inspired accompaniment. McRae is in great voice on this date, bringing out the best in songs with her emotional and dramatic interpretations
