A new, larger version of Camel debuted on Nude, a concept album about a Japanese soldier stranded on a deserted island during World War II and staying there, oblivious to the outside world, for 29 years. More ambitious than the preceding I Can See Your House from Here, Nude is in many ways just as impressive. Although it's a less accessible effort, it has a number of quite intriguing passages, particularly since it boasts heavier improvisation, orchestration, and even some worldbeat influences. Featuring titles such as Drafted, Please Come Home and Captured, the album is warmly remembered by Camel fans as one of their strongest. The band were a basic three-piece by this stage, with Colin Bass on bass guitar and two lead vocals, and Andy Ward on drums for the last time. But it missed the Billboard 200, on which Camels albums had enjoyed a modest presence through most of the 1970s, and was the bands last top 40 album in their own country. But further chart appearances ensued with The Single Factor in 1982 and 1984s Stationary Traveller. Nude can be bought here. Follow uDiscovers Camel Best Of playlist. All in all, this is a pretty good album by the group and one of the best Camel albums from the 1980s the live version of Nude from On the Road 1981 is also very good and a lot more energetic. For those folks new to the group, start with The Snow Goose 1975. Come to think of it, Rain Dances 1977 is also quite good
