Cabaret Voltaire are an English music group formed in Sheffield in 1973 and initially composed of Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk, and Chris Watson. The group was named after the Cabaret Voltaire, the Zürich nightclub that served as a centre for the early Dada movement. The early work of Cabaret Voltaire consisted primarily of experimentation with DIY electronics and tape machines, as well as Dada-influenced performance art, helping to pioneer industrial music in the mid-1970s. This is the album in which Cabaret Voltaire proved their mettle as artists by reinventing themselves to keep up to date with the music scene they had helped to create. As the early pioneers of an industrial movement which died gracefully in an epilogue of electronic and heavy synthetic sounds, their vision helped a phoenix to arise from the ashes of disco death in Detroit: the new Techno scene was borne in Detroit after Disco had been murered, and hence it picked up a dark tone from the underground industrial sound. Agree! especially with meeper's comment and for the track listing regarding CRUSHTRASH's response to the track listing.Recently picked this up (From Here) (Just listened to it, Excellent!!) and noticed the track listing. Was wondering which vinyl track would match up to titles on the label but CRUSHTRASH seems to put it straight!! Thanks !! seems like more similar to a Jean Michel Jarre or Kraftwerk- ish type of tracks, oh well (either way all good) !!

As with a few of their Parlophone era 12", the track-listing order is not quite right! The Vocal Mix (the only one on this 12") is actually track B1. It is a unique Rob Gordon remix, with a very dominant treated bassline, not the album vocal, and has never made it to CD (yet). Listening to the other two mixes it is likely the correct naming would've been: A - Strange Mix, B1 - Vocal, B2 - Very Strange Mix (as this mix is much more free-form than the A side).EMI even managed to repeat the mistake when they released the box set of 12"/outtakes, "Conform to Deform", and also "Remixed". Also on "Remixed" the remix of "Keep On" is the Phil Harding Club Mix, not the underground dubby Western Works mix by the boys, which mirrors the naming errors on the original CD single!
