Info

The Concerto for Orchestra, Sz. 116, BB 123, is a five-movement orchestral work composed by Béla Bartók in 1943. It is one of his best-known, most popular, and most accessible works. The score is inscribed 15 August 8 October 1943. It was premiered on December 1, 1944, in Symphony Hall, Boston, by the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Serge Koussevitzky. It was a great success and has been regularly performed since. I had read about the Concerto for orchestra Fritz Reiner did with the Chicago Symphony in 1955 for a long time and finally got around to listening to it. I found that it lived up to expectations. All three pieces found here receive outstanding performances, making for a highly worthwhile disc a classic in the good sense. Verified Purchase. This album is as close to definitive as one can ask. The performances are BEAUTIFUL and the recorded sound is exceptional and hold up even by modern standards. This album is, indeed, one of the great things in life. Read more.
