High Hopes is the eighteenth studio album by American recording artist Bruce Springsteen, released January 14, 2014, on Columbia Records. The album was Springsteen's 11th 1 album in the United States, placing him third all-time for most No. 1 albums only behind The Beatles and Jay-Z. It was his tenth No. 1 in the UK, putting him joint fifth all-time and level with The Rolling Stones and U2. Rolling Stone named it the second-best album of 2014 on their year-end list. High Hopes. Recorded in New Jersey, LA, Atlanta, Australia and New York City, High Hopes marks Springsteens 18th studio album and features the members of the E Street Band as well as guitarist Tom Morello. Morello joined Springsteen on tour in Australia in 2013 and became, as Springsteen says, my muse, pushing the rest of this project to another level. Clarence Clemons, who passed away in 2011, and Danny Federici, who passed away in 2008, also appear on several songs of what Springsteen calls some of our best unreleased material from the past decade. Versions of Tim Scott McConnells High Hopes and Suicides Dream Baby Dream bookend the record, but its Springsteens snarling take of Chris Bailey and The Saints 1986 single Just Like Fir. High Hopes' is Bruce Springsteen 's most disjointed album, and purposely so. Pulled together from various outtakes, cover songs and re-recordings from the past two decades, Springsteen's 18th album is looser and less structurally sound than anything he's released since becoming a star in the mid '70s. And without something more sturdy to hang his music and lyrics on, 'High Hopes' is somewhat aimless. American Skin 41 Shots,' originally written in 1999 and one of Springsteen's best songs of the past 15 years, finally gets an official studio version after years of airtight performances onstage
