Bear Creek is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile. The album was released on June 5, 2012, through Columbia Records. The entire album was Record producer by Grammy Award winner Trina Shoemaker. The title of the album refers to Bear Creek Studio in which the majority of the album was recorded. The first single from the album was That Wasn't Me which was released on April 3, 2012. The song peaked at No. 5 on the US Triple A radio format. The notion of diminishing youth Carlile turned 30 during the making of the album plays a pivotal role on Bear Creek, and contributes to some of its finest moments. Both A Promise to Keep, with its soft cadence, deft fingerpicking, and stoic refrain of The hill I'm walking up is getting good and steep, and the lush and languid closer Just Kids manage to bask in the sepia glow of nostalgia without disappearing into the past, which is an attribute that Carlile, with her old-school melodic sense and genuine flair. The soulful piano-based track showcases the warmth and subtle power of Carlile s vocals. Bear Creek has a much stronger country sound, which is great if you like that sort of thing. The opening song is superb but the ballads on this album fell a bit flat, which is surprising and disappointing since they are normally a great strength of hers.
