Info
Bonnie Raitt is the self-titled debut album by Bonnie Raitt, released in 1971. A straight-blues affair, it was recorded at an empty summer camp on Enchanted Island, about 30 miles west of Minneapolis on Lake Minnetonka. We recorded live on four tracks because we wanted a more spontaneous and natural feeling in the music, Raitt wrote in the album's liner notes, a feeling often sacrificed when the musicians know they can overdub their part on a separate track until it's perfect. Bonnie Raitt hadnt even made it out of the parking lot and into the terminal at the San Francisco International Airport when one of her nightmares suddenly became real. Like most performers, Raitt suffers from a couple of recurring anxiety dreams. Three of the awards honored Nick of Time, Raitts latest album, which is made up of her usual mix of blues, R&B and pop ballads. The LP makes no ostensible concessions to current popular tastes, and it addresses such grown-up concerns as having children and coming to terms with old age. I was depleted, but like when your car runs out of battery and your friend pushes you, I got a push. My guitarist George Marinelli sent me the track, If You Need Somebody, and I got the wheels going. I knew I was going to write something about dad, and it was going to be said, so I was glad to break that block. The album has uptempo rockers, too. We were feeling pretty frisky, I must say. There are a couple of those ballads, but I like to put together a collection the way you would put a show together. Bonnie Raitt interview: Catching up with the Northern California music legend. Thats pretty clear from listening to the recent offering Dig in Deep, which finds Raitt taking the albums title to heart - and digging in very deep - on a dozen solid tunes that range from blues rockers to big ballads.
