Music Inspired by Lord of the Rings is an instrumental progressive rock album by Swedish musician Bo Hansson. As its title suggests, it is a concept album based on author J. Tolkien's high fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings. The album was originally issued in Sweden in late 1970, under the Swedish title of Sagan om ringen, and was subsequently re-released internationally as Music Inspired by Lord of the Rings in September 1972. The album reached the Top 40 of the UK Album Chart and was. Bo Hansson recorded this album on a 4-tracks tape on a little island in the Baltic Sea. I suppose it was winter. The nordic athmosphere is present in all the tracks and it's its strength. Tolkien's ''Lord of the rings'',which was released in 1970 under the Swedish title ''Sagan om ringen''. My copy has the phone number to SAM, not to mention CAS 1059 on the run-out groove, meaning my version had to be printed after 1972 when it was licensed internationally by Charisma Records. CAS 1059 is the catalog number for the Charisma pressing, so I find it interesting my copy on Silence would have that printed in the run-out groove. Apparently the true original will not even have an SAM distribution on the back cover (or CAS 1056 on the run-out groove) as SAM distribution with Silence apparently didn't happen until late 1972.

My copy is slightly different. It is SRS4600 but lacks the musical credits and the phone number to SAM on the back sleeve.

The true original should not even have "CAS 1059" on the runouts, after all that was the Charisma catalog number. Charisma didn't release the album until 1972, and when they did, it was under the more familiar title and cover (Lord of the Rings, hand holding the ring cover) and all the song titles retitled in English. The "Festen På Gärdet" sleeve was from that various artists compilation album and not Bo Hansson, so chances are someone owned both Sagan Om Ringen and Festen På Gärdet and accidentally placed the latter sleeve in the Bo Hansson album. I have plenty of albums with sleeves not belonging to that record (most commonly sleeves belonging to a different label), plenty of A&M sleeves in records not released on A&M, for example. That's what I get for buying used LPs, chances are they've been in the hands of many previous users.
