Arabia Mountain is the sixth studio album by American garage punk band Black Lips, released on June 7, 2011. The album was written and recorded over a nine-month stretch from March 2010 to January 2011. Lockett Pundt produced Bicentennial Man and Go Out and Get It, while Mark Ronson was responsible for producing the rest. The production by Ronson was conducted first in a Brooklyn studios, but completed in Black Lips' hometown of Atlanta due to time constraints. The music video for the first single. Black Lips team up with producers Mark Ronson Amy Winehouse and Deerhunters Lockett Pundt for their sixth release to create a tighter and cleaner sound while retaining the garage-rock grit and spirit at the core of the bands identity. The tracks are razor-sharp, scuzzy, and brief - only two of the 16 are longer than three minutes - and the whole album surges by in a blurred rush of hook-filled adrenaline on first listen. Subsequent spins bring individual tracks to the surface that benefit from some fine flourishes including honking sax breaks, jangly acoustic guitar, whistles, and pounding. After a decade of playing wildly sloppy, thrillingly messed up garage noise that always seemed on the brink of collapse, Black Lips must have felt like changing things up. So, for their 2011 album, Arabia Mountain, they hit the studio with big shot producer Mark Ronson to tightened up and streamlined their sound. The usual murky haze their albums seemed trapped under is gone and the drums now have a healthy kick, the guitars ring out clearly, and the vocals are out front and proud.
