Black Velvet is the fourth and final studio album by American funksoul artist Charles Bradley, released on 9 November 2018. The album release was preceded by two singles, Can't Fight the Feeling and I Feel a Change. The name of the album comes from Bradley's stage name during his time as a James Brown impersonator. The album consists of songs originally recorded for Bradley's three previous studio albums, and was compiled by producer Thomas Brenneck after Bradley's death from cancer in September. Though chronologically the material spans Charles' entire career, this is no anthology, greatest hits or other shallow rehashing of the songs that already made him famous. Rather, this album is a profound exploration through the less-travelled corners of the soulful universe that Charles and his longtime producer, co-writer and friend Tommy TNT Brenneck created in the studio together over their decade-long partnership. To honor Bradley's passing, DunhamDaptone Records has released Black Velvet, a collection of rarities and unreleased material that Bradley cut during his tenure with the label, and while this album lacks the thematic coherence of the three LPs he cut in his lifetime, this certainly demonstrates the skill, passion, and emotional intelligence that Bradley brought to his music. The album features new songs recorded during the sessions from each of his three albums - 2011 No Time For Dreaming, 2013 Victim of Love and 2016 Changes - including tracks like the single I Feel A Change, Can't Fight the Feeling, Fly Little Girl and other funk rarities like Luv Jones and I Hope You Find The Good Life.
