Beethoven's Fidelio is probably my favorite opera of all time, and of all the mainstream recordings, this one is probably my least favorite. Theo Adam, another Wagnerian, sounds too crazy and insane to be the villain Pizarro, a character I never before now felt had to be handled with at least some subtlety.
