There's less of the band's own identity which would be stamped so definitively on later albums such as The visitor and Contagion. It's still an excellent album though, with many fine neo prog rock moments. Even 10 years after the launching of Songs from the Lions Cage, the sound's fantastically bombastic. Powerful prog done with experience and a keen sense of melody. Fans of complex and pushed-forward progressive, this is not for you. The first album of Arena was released, featuring Clive Nolan keyboards and Mick Pointer drums, with Cliff Orsi bass, Keith More guitar and John Carson vocals. This excellent piece of work entitled Songs From The Lions Cage and released on Arenas own Verglas label, is very well received and a new progressive rock legend has been born. A few critics react by saying that Arena clearly reflects shades of a Fish-era-Marillion, with Mick ex-Marillion on drums and a vocalist whose voice resembles elements of Fishs voice.
