They're not designed to be listened to in one sitting and shouldn't be: it's not the sameness of the orchestration which might get in the way, it's the intensity with which Vivaldi composed them and the manner in which the remarkable Rachel Podger plays them. Fans of Andrew Manze will love Podger for similar reasons. This recording was my introduction to Arte dei Suonatori. It's a relatively unknown and underappreciated, Polish group. Well, I appreciate them. La stravaganza The Eccentricity, Op. 4, is a set of concertos written by Antonio Vivaldi in 17121713. The set was first published in 1716 in Amsterdam and was dedicated to Venetian nobleman Vettor Delfino, who had been a violin student of Vivaldi's. All of the concertos are scored for solo violin, strings, and basso continuo however, some movements require extra soloists such as a second violin andor cello solo.
