On Evidence Anthony Ortega. Anthony Robert Tony Ortega born June 7, 1928 in Los Angeles, California is an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, and flautist. Ortega was heavily influenced and introduced to musicians and started his career in Watts, Los Angeles by cousin and acclaimed Vocalist and Trombonist Ray Vasquez. Ortega began to play the saxophone at age 14 and studied the instrument under Lloyd Reese. He played in 1947 with Earle Spencer, but from 1948 to 1951 he served in the U.
