Things start out very nicely indeed with Where We Going a Pat Matheny-ish, easy-grooving tune having an eminently hummable melody, a driving rhythmic vibe, and fine playing by the three principals Steve Lodder, keys Andy Sheppard, soprano and tenor sax and Nana Vasconcelos, drums and percussion. My personal favorites include Slow Boat, a languid, tropics-drenched tango-flavored tune Hush Hush, a mid-tempo, breeze-kissed Latin charmer Ocean View, with its lush tenor stylings, cool synth and piano feel, and some entirely apposite percussion and vocalizations from Nana Is. Andy Sheppard born 20 January 1957 is a British jazz saxophonist and composer. He has been awarded several prizes at the British Jazz Awards, and has worked with some notable figures in contemporary jazz, including Gil Evans, Carla Bley, George Russell and Steve Swallow. Off the back of this, Sheppard was awarded Best Album and Best Instrumentalist in 1989's British Jazz Awards, became the subject of television documentaries for both the BBC and HTV, and toured the world, taking the first Western jazz group to play in Outer Mongolia.
