The live material here is Amon Düül II at their most vibrant, featuring versions of VIVE LA TRANCE songs in their embryonic state, like a furious Lady's Mimicry with a rhythm structure that crosses Can with Hawkwind and an astonishing version of Trap, arranged very differently to the later studio recording, with a typically Düül-ian drunken chorus line. Videos 1. Amon Duul II Live in concert 1973 full album. О видео. These live recordings from a BBC broadcast in 1973 show the true live essence of Amon Düül II, based more on the research of a trippy atmosphere than on technical values: while the rhythm section is very tight, the guitar and vocal parts are stunningly raw, deconstructed, sometimes evidently out of tune. Its obvious that this treatment is most likely to exalt the earlier material than the structural phase of the band: so Kanaan and Dem Guten, Schonen, Wahren are given botched but valid renditions. AMON DÜÜL II - BBC LIVE IN CONCERT, PLUS (Windsong WINCD 027) CD 45m
Back in my Amon Düül history in Audion #19, I said that there were two "In Concert" performances by Amon Düül II yet, according to themselves and the BBC archive, what is on this disc is their only appearance! Despite this, I'm almost certain that what I used to have on cassette many years back wasn't this at all!
This CD collects a 1973 live recording lasting 30 minutes together with some exclusive bonus material. There are also some older classics here like Kanaan and Dem Guten, Schonen, Wahren, both originally on PHALLUS DEI, and here played with exceptional raw energy, and also a rather lazy Green Bubble Raincoated Man.
Thanks to the persistence of (probably) the world's most dedicated AD2 fan: Phil Burford, there's also the rare treat here of the drum solo that lead to the creation of the classic cosmic opus The Marilyn Monroe Memorial Church, and a more unusual version of Chewinggum Telegram.
All in all, this essential disc acts as a mini history of the first four years of one of the most influential bands from the Krautrock era.
My review from Audion magazine #24 (Feb. 1993)

p.s. as was revealed with a later reissue, the other recording I knew was the John Peel session.
