Alejandro´s latest release Selva y Pampa on Meander (his first release for the label) is unlikely to dissapoint anyone who appreciates his music, as well as hopefully gaining him some fresh support. This is a a producer who sure knows what he is doing, while never losing sight of his specialty; mixing unusual sounds and feelings throughout a track without things ever getting messy.

Pampa starts off calmly (almost) ambient before steadily developing into deeper and more experimental territories. Alejandro builds an aquatic groove layering it with wide sweeping synths and electricly popping percussion rising and falling in and out of the mix. The bass softly thumps giving the track depth, while maintaining a crisp, sparkling touch that keeps it from sounding muddy. Pampa's production is playfully unpredictable, just when you think “this is it”, all of a sudden there’s a Spanish guitar in there to confuse and surprise. The tune is filled with whirlygig percussive FX, giving the track a organic, alien warmth, while at the same time propelling enough energy to easily move a dancefloor. Definitely something that would work as well in a dark after-hour club as on your iPod.

On the flip, Selva kicks of with an intro containing a digeridoo. It might make the start a bit irritating for some, but hold on because it’s worth the wait. Even if the beginning is a bit funny, the rest is deadly serious. A steady bass with a huge metallic sounding horn over the digeridoo,a high-tone synthloop and some percussion wood block give the track a deeper and darker side . It’s monotone and repetitive, without letting go of the listener, and while this combination might be tricky, but for almost 12 minutes it works out just fine!
Where some tracks can fall down the trap of trading intelligence for excitement this release stands tall. It might require a few listens before you get the whole picture, but when you do it’s just beautiful. Don't not miss out on this one.
