This album is a bomb from start to finish, and i could easily play them all out in one go. You get a big bonus with each track featuring media clips from the old days. Disco Demolition night, A small radio ad from Tee Scott on Better Days.. Jellybean interview.. you name it. But the music, is the ultimate party album.
Fantastic stuff.

Ok now, before you judge something, you should always try it three times. So, I’m listening for the third time to Al Kent’s 'Secret Sounds'. The album is about to be released, and here’s what I think… Before I bought the album, I surfed around a bit. I checked some free samples, read some reviews, etc. It’s obvious that the comparison with Al’s masterpiece ‘Better Days’, is never far away, nevertheless, totally unnecessary in my opinion. ‘Secret Sounds’ is a total different concept, it’s like comparing apples and pears. Whereas ‘Better Days’ is a trip back into time, ‘Secret Sounds’ is the present. Whereas ‘Better Days’ was a large project, ‘Secret Sound’ is a home-studio thing. Whereas ‘Better Days’ is the bomb, ‘Secret Sounds’ is the fuse.

I’m turning the volume up.

My absolute favorite would be ‘Come Back Home’, featuring Tyrone Taylor, as well as the last track ‘Tenner Rap’. Too bad there isn’t a 10th track. It would made the album complete. I really like that the songs blend over, are woven into each other with obscure audio samples from the past. It gives you that instant mix feeling. A feeling were you don’t want to leave the dance-floor. You wanna GetGetGet DownDown.

I was dazzled with the production and creative level of ‘Better Days’, it was somehow hard to believe such masterpiece was possible anno 2008. However ‘Secret Sounds’ is the confirmation that Al can do it again. Don’t let me be mistaken, it’s a totally different album. It’s more contemporary in my opinion. ‘Better Days’ was the absolute magnum opus, and I’m not the only one who is waiting for the follow-up. But in meantime today’s Disco God Al Kent has stilled our hunger, with a fantastic, mind-blowing, awesome, stunning actual Disco record.

Just like Salsoul wasn’t Disco but Salsoul, and like MFSB wasn’t Soul but MFSB, this is not Disco, it’s not Nu-Disco, it’s Million Dollar Disco, baby! Yeah! Get Funky!
