I'll be brief-the best 220 Volt album, by far, is their 1988 release Eye to Eye. Any 80's metal fan unfamiliar with this album would be well rewarded if they can get their hands on it. Check out YouTube-The Harder They Come, the title track, etc. Pwergames isn't a bad album either, but Lethal Illusion and stuff prior to Eye to Eye is clearly a cut below. Read more. Lethal Illusion, the 1997 release from the long running Swedish hard rock/heavy metal band 220 Volt, was the band's fifth overall album and their first release in nearly a decade. No one plays melodic hard rock quite like the Swedish, and 220 Volt is no exception. There are elements to the band's sound that remind me at times of Treat, Baltimoore, Legs Diamond, and even Warrant. An odd mix, but it seems to work.

Not as essential as the average Treat or Alien release, Lethal Illusion is still a fine melodic rock album. It's got plenty in the way of catchy guitar hooks, melodies, and fun rockin' songs, and let's face it; there weren't a lot of bands making this kind of music in 1997. Highlights include the opening title track, "Shotgun Sally", and "The Great Escape". I could live without "Chicago" and especially "Private Queen", but for the most part this is a solid album.

At present, Lethal Illusion is the only 220 Volt album I've heard, so I can't attest as to how well it holds up against the band's 80's releases. It's good enough to make me want to hunt those albums down, though.

NOTE: A pair of early 220 Volt demos from 1982 are tacked on to the end of Lethal Illusion. These demos ("Prisoner of War" and "Sauron"), are very rough, very metal, and would have made for a great Neat Records 7" during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) scene. They definitely came as something of a surprise after the polished melodic rock of the main Lethal Illusion album.
